Skavenjah has worked very hard to become one of North America’s premiere SKA and Reggae bands over the past 25 years. Their incredible live show is proof of that. There was no other band who played more often at the Nakusp Music Fest than Skavenjah.
For many years they seriously considered moving to Nakusp as the band felt that it was their home. Although they’re no longer together, they have reunited just for this show in Nakusp.
If a line exists between classical and electronic, between ancient and new, synthetic and organic, Kytami has sliced them all using only a violin bow.
Kytami has already been dubbed a ‘music revolutionary’ by Whats Up Magazine USA, a ‘violinistextremist’ here at home, and has been summoned to bring her violin to audiences as far reaching as Taiwan, Dubai and Berlin.
Mike MacKenzie Band
Based out of Calgary, Alberta, Mike MacKenzie is an original blues-rock guitarist, singer and songwriter. Inspired by guitar-heavy groups such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Jimmi Hendrix among many others, he finds his own sound in a progressive styling of blues-rock.
23 North has been a musical fixture in Nakusp for over 15 years. Their blend of Classic Rock, Country and Blues has been a welcome attraction at weddings, dances and parties too numerous to mention. The band continues to evolve, and now features an updated rhythm section in the form of bassist Rick Offermann and drummer Richard March, in addition to founding guitarist Dave Mang. Always ready to help get the party going.
23 North is honoured to represent Nakusp and to be the opener of this show at this very special Birthday celebration.
Mariachi del Sol
Born and raised in the City of Texcoco, Mexico, singing since age 4, now a professional singer and guitar player. Based in Vancouver, BC since 1990 where he is well known. Octavio Carrillo is the lead singer, founder and director of Mariachi del Sol and he has participated in numerous contests and festivals in Mexico and Canada, achieving several awards as composer and singer.
For more than 10 years, Brickhouse was the official late-night house band for the famous Yale Hotel. It was on the Yale stage that the band built a legion of fans as diverse as you can get: hipsters, university students, baby boomers, tourists and musicians from 19 to 55+; all experienced the band live and soon grew to love Brickhouse and their brand of groovy, bluesy funky music. It’s rare for anyone who hears Brickhouse not to want to get up on the dance floor and find some “Room to Move”. Inevitably, you wait to catch their magical groove the band gets into; where 6 musicians turn into the Brickhouse machine….an almost-hypnotic meld of mind, body and soul where the audience, by singing and dancing along, becomes part of one of the best live music experiences you can find anywhere.
With their brand of original, funky tracks and cleverly covered classic R&B tunes, Brickhouse blends classic and modern (blues funk) with ease and makes hearing and seeing Brickhouse an addictive experience.
The Foggy Goggle Boys
The Foggy Goggle Boys are a 5 piece acoustic band based in Rossland, BC, playing bluegrass inspired folk and rock tunes. We take our inspiration from the mountains, rivers and forests that we play in throughout western Canada. Our songs range from introspective and melodic to heavy, foot stomping tunes that will get any crowd up and dancing.
The Foggy Goggle Boys originally came together in 2011. One day at practice we floated the idea of putting some original songs into the mix, since we had a few kicking around that had only been performed for our friends and families. We have moved largely in that direction for the last few years, and have written and arranged many songs in that time that are now the staples of our show.
